David Stillman Wins Ideas for Good Contest - July 2013
Congratulations to David Stillman, board member of UNA-SNY. He has won the Grand Prize for July in the Marigold Ideas for Good Contest. Thank you to all who voted for him! David, a retired United Nations staff member, helped form the Clean Cook Stove and Fuel Initiative. After the earthquake in Haiti, the Public-Private Alliance Foundation, which he heads, is piloting two environmentally-friendly varieties of small cook stoves and fuel for distribution. In Haiti, wood and charcoal is used for cooking and imposes a critical situation for health, deforestation, and environmental damage. The Marigold grant will help purchase ethanol from local farmers and distillers, pay for construction of a briquette press, and cover costs for project monitoring and evaluation.
