Green For Queens Earth Day Fair, May 6The Energy Project was represented featuring one of the two clean cook stove models destined for a community-based evaluation project in Haiti. The Project's table also showcased other projects in and products from Haiti and illustrated tangible ways for visitors and NYC residents to green their communities, to increase their energy efficiency and to make change at the grassroots level.
Energy Policy and Renewable Technologies, March 27
The Division's Young Professionals European Affairs Committee and the Energy Project hosted a panel discussion on Energy Policy and Renewable Technologies in Europe and the U.S. Academics, business people and members of the diplomatic community will speak, including. Carolyn Kissane, New York University, Marty Barruso, Medesco, LLC. and Johannes Urpelainen, Columbia University, spoke.
Citizen Conference on Sustainable Development, Yale University, March 24 and 25The Energy Project and the UNA-SNY Division were represented by Energy Project Coordinator Matthias Resch and the Division's social media point-person Jennifer Irrizary. They were joined by CDi volunteer Kelcey Gosserand. The two-day event included workshops and sessions surrounding issues of renewable energy, ecology and sustainable development. Valuable contacts were made and bases for advocacy partnerships were formed.
Queens Chapter celebrates Earth Day, March 24
The Queens Chapter presented Earth Day celebrations at the beautiful Queens Museum of Art. "Creating Awareness for a Health Environment: Saving our planet earth for our future generations." The program included a keynote speech, music and dance performances, demonstration of an ethanol cookstove, and a group photo at the Unisphere. The program honored Dr. Aline Euer, Director of Education, Alley Pond Environmental Center.
Rotary Club of New York - "2012 - The Year of Energy: Technologies in the US and Abroad", March 19This evening event at the General Society of Mechanics and Tradesmen featured Energy Project Director Dr. George A. Garland and PPAF Executive Director David Stillman. Both models of clean cook stoves for Haiti were featured and discussed among other parts of the formal program.
